Beta Reading and Proofreading
Hello, I’m Chloe Ann, and I offer beta reading and proofreading services for writers of all experience levels.
As a writer myself, I understand that having someone else read your work can be scary. Whether it’s your first short story or the novel you’ve been working on for years, handing it over to someone else can feel daunting. That’s why I aim to create a friendly, relaxed environment where no question is too small and no writer feels judged.
I’ll always give honest, constructive feedback. My goal isn’t to rewrite your story or change your voice; it’s to help you make your work stronger while staying true to your vision.
This is your story. Any feedback I provide is exactly that – feedback. You’re always in control of the final decisions, and I’ll never pressure you to make changes you don’t feel are right for your work.

First things first, what’s the difference between beta reading and proofreading?
Beta reading:
This focuses on the story itself. I’ll look at areas such as your plot, characters, pacing, dialogue, world-building, and the overall reader experience. I’ll let you know what drew me into the story, what worked particularly well, and where I think improvements could make an even bigger impact.
Proofreading:
This focuses on the technical side of your writing. I’ll check for spelling, grammar, punctuation, consistency, formatting, and all other technical errors that can distract readers from your story. The aim is to polish your work while keeping your own writing style and voice intact.
What you’ll receive:

An annotated copy of your manuscript with comments throughout.

A personalised feedback report (around 1-3 pages, depending on the length of your work).

Honest, constructive suggestions.

Positive feedback on what worked well.

A list of recurring issues or strengths to help you improve as a writer.
Turnaround times vary depending on the length of your project, but I’ll always let you know an estimated completion date before any work begins.
Pricing:
£5 per 500 words - Up to 5,000 words
5,001 words and above: Please contact me for a personalised quote.
If you want a package of both beta reading and proofreading, please contact me for a custom quote.
Please be aware that for smaller projects of 5,000 words or less the full payment is expected up front. For larger projects it is 50% deposit, and the remainder before the final reports are given.

Please note that I currently only work in Microsoft word, as this allows me to leave comments, suggestions, and track changes throughout your document. Once I have finished with your work, you will receive it back in a Word document with comments and suggestions throughout, along with a separate feedback report summarising my overall thoughts and recommendations.
Your work will always remain confidential. I will never share, reproduce, or discuss your writing with anyone else without your permission.
